Illustrated Children's books
I have just finished illustrating two ebooks, the books are short stories for both boys and girls and have been written to appeal to their imagination and build their vocabulary. I have worked closely with the author in developing the style of illustration he wanted for the book characters, but still managing to add my own little twists to the scenes as the projects developed. As always after reading the manuscript several times, go through marking up potential scenes that have strong illustrative structure. Once agreed with the Author its sketchbook time to just simply wireframe the scenes I have in my head. Its then I start gathering resources for reference, I find Pintrest good for this. Then its more detailed drawings which I then scan and take usually into illustrator to develop various individual characters elements or props. Finally I develop the characters in Photoshop adding texture and shading. I tend to work through a scene at a time as I find this focuses my mind and attachment to the scened that is unfolding, you kind of get drawn in to it and grow as the illustration grows.
